ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT DELIVERED TO KERRIER

An Environmental Impact Assessment on the proposed development at South Crofty in Redruth has been submitted to Kerrier District Council.

The report, which has taken nine months to compile, was required in accordance with a European Directive that covers certain types of development.  It has been prepared by Stephen Payne Associates, working in conjunction with Scott Wilson, Lilly Lewarne Practice, Leppitt Associates, Cornwall Archaeology Unit and Cornwall Enterprise on behalf of Crofty Developments Limited.

A planning application for the South Crofty site was submitted to Kerrier District Council on 12 February 2004.  As a result of the mine’s modernisation, the regeneration of the 27 acre surface area can be achieved with a mixed development comprising a heritage and visitor centre, housing, commercial premises and leisure facilities.

‘Putting this Environmental Impact Assessment together has been a mammoth undertaking that has involved a lot of people – all specialists in their own field,’ said Charles Stericker, Director of Crofty Developments Ltd.  ‘We now look forward to Kerrier’s response to our planning application.’

Having received the Assessment, Kerrier is expected to review all the documents submitted and to make a decision by the end of June.

‘We believe our plans for the South Crofty site will provide a huge boost for the Camborne, Pool, Redruth area,’ said Mr Stericker.  ‘With a fully operational mine underground creating hundreds of jobs and a well-designed mixed use development on the surface, we think we can transform South Crofty.

‘The land used to be a source of great pride and economic prosperity. We want to make it so again.’
