EXPLOSION WILL MARK THE NEXT PHASE OF MINING OPERATIONS

The initial blast will be fired to start a new tunnel on Tuesday 13 April at South Crofty Tin Mine in Camborne, Cornwall.  The event – a vital part of Baseresult’s plan to achieve full tin production in approximately two years’ time - will mark the beginning of South Crofty’s physical mining phase and immediately change its status to ‘operational’.

The tunnel – which will link the Tuckingmill Decline with New Cook Kitchen’s Shaft - will take about 6 months to complete.  Once finished, the next major step will be to prepare for pumping out the mine.

‘It is better to excavate this initial tunnel whilst the mine is full of water in order to prevent damage to New Cook’s Kitchen Shaft and Old Engine Shaft when the connections are made,’ explains Kevin Williams, Managing Director of Baseresult Holdings Ltd.  ‘It will provide direct access to the areas that we need to pump out.  The new Alimak lift, when installed, will be the second access.  Preparations to install the water treatment works are planned during this time as well. It is a very exciting step forward and represents yet more evidence of our absolute determination to get South Crofty working as a fully operational tin mine again.’
