SOUTH CROFTY OPEN DAY TO MARK ANNIVERSARY
To mark the sixth anniversary of the mine's closure on 6 March 1998, Baseresult Holdings Limited is hosting an open day at South Crofty tin mine on Saturday 6 March from 10 am to 4pm.
Visitors will have an opportunity to look at our recently published plans for the South Crofty site and to talk to Baseresult staff about the exciting concept of putting all the mine workings underground - thereby minimising the environmental impact of a working tin mine and releasing about 75% of the surface area of the site for much-needed tourist, housing, commerce and leisure development.
Also on hand to talk to visitors will be architects from Lilly Lewarne of Truro whose designs have now been submitted to Kerrier District Council. Baseresult has formed a partnership with a leading Cornish property developer to create a visionary redevelopment at South Crofty - a redevelopment that has been devised after regular consultation with the Urban Regeneration Company.
Having acquired the South Crofty site in 2001, Baseresult has, with the full support of its funders, spent the last two and a half years working on a detailed business plan and preparing the mine for a new operational start. Confident of running the mine at a profit, the company is ready to embark on the next stage of operations - a stage that will lead directly to full tin production, at pre-closure levels, employing 200 miners, within the next two years.
A limited number of underground tours will be offered free to open day visitors. There will also be a chance to win further free places throughout the year.
