PRESS STATEMENT IN RESPONSE TO THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE NOTICE OF INTENTION TO COMPULSORILY PURCHASE SOUTH CROFTY TIN MINE

Baseresult Holdings Limited has only today received notification from South West of England Regional Development Agency that it intends to make a Compulsory Purchase Order to acquire land at South Crofty Mine.

The company has the benefit of planning permission to extract tin from South Crofty Mine until 2042 and it has plans, currently the subject of a planning appeal, to bring forward the significant restoration of part of the above ground area – plans that will assist in the early regeneration of the Pool area.

Baseresult Holdings Limited will vigorously oppose a proposed Compulsory Purchase Order and will continue preparing the mine for full tin production.  Using the most modern technology and equipment available, the mining methods being proposed will revolutionise the way tin is extracted in Cornwall and provide well paid employment opportunities.

Government policy recognises that minerals are an important natural resource, which makes an essential contribution to the nation's prosperity and quality of life.  The proposals contained in the draft Camborne Pool Redruth Area Action Plan are untested and at a very early stage.  They do not take account of the forthcoming mineral extraction at the established South Crofty Mine.
